Because we are here

Actually, we’ve been here — on the ground, where it matters — for the past three years. Kalam: Margins Write found spirit and soul in 2004, and ever since then, we’ve been creating our identity from a pilot project to a thriving creative writing/art-education program for marginalized youth in Kolkata. Our work? Poetry workshops, creative writing intensives, sidewalk poetry exhibitions, public/community readings, rooftop addas, and recently, a lit mag brought out by youth (to be launched on January 27th). And as we continue to diffuse the culture of critical thinking and creative writing among marginalized youth — we want to share our stories, ephiphanies, challenges, and realizations.

Why? Because we are here and we have a lot to say.
